Super Mario Odyssey’s gameplay is a delightful mix of classic platforming and some new mechanics. There are Mario’s signature jumps and moves, but something else is really the star of the show and that is his new friend: Cappy. With Cappy, the possibilities are endless.
Cappy will add even more versatility to Mario’s movement with a whole range of actions that can be performed by throwing it at a target or jumping with it. The most revolutionary thing is Mario’s ability to ‘capture’ some of the enemies and objects, temporarily controlling them.
This capture mechanic is a whole new way to play and provides creative solutions to puzzles and different ways to go around each kingdom. Each thing captured possesses its particular set of skills, which means exploration and combat is always fresh and exciting.
- Cap Throwing: Use Cappy to attack enemies, hit switches or jump.
- Take control of the many enemies you will encounter, such as Goombas, Hammer Bros, even T-Rexes, and use their special powers.
- Visit the many kingdoms to discover hundreds of Power Moons to boost the Odyssey.
- Coin Gathering: gather regular and kingdom coins to buy new outfits and souvenirs.
- Exploration Focus: Each kingdom is a sandbox with secrets, side quests and environmental puzzles to solve.
- Creative Movement: learn more advanced moves such as wall jumping, long jumping and diving attacks to get into hidden areas.

Cappy & Capture System:
Cappy, Mario’s hat companion, revolutionizes platforming. Also, Cappy can be thrown to attack, used as a platform, or “captured” to wield its unique powers, with over 50 different objects, animals and enemies (such as a T-Rex, frog or Goomba) to capture.
Deep Movement System:
In addition to running and jumping, Mario boasts a very versatile 3D movement, such as the triple jump, long jump, dive, and mid-air jumps with the Cappy.
Sandbox Design:
The game design is again open-ended, as seen in Super Mario 64, and the players navigate through dense, large environments. Players choose locations around the world rather than a central world from the Odyssey airship map.
Power Moons:
They are the main collectibles in the game, which can be used to fuel the airship and reveal new worlds and secrets.
